Welcome to Zanzibar
Zanzibar is an eastern African country located on the coast of the Indian ocean. Although Zanzibar is considered as an independent country, it is in fact an autonomous province of Tanzania with its own government. The main island is Unguja and it is well known for its beautiful beaches as well as a rich history and culture. Zanzibar is well known for its spice farming, the rumba style that is the combination of the African, Arab, Indian and European cultures and being a center of trade. The island boasts of some of the world’s best beaches including Paje, Nungwi and Kizimkazi which afford the tourists a chance to soak up some sun, swim or go diving and snorkeling. Stone Town of Zanzibar is the historical part of the city which is characterized by the maze of narrow streets and elaborate structures and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The best time to visit Zanzibar is during the dry season that is from June to October, but it becomes quite crowded during the high season. Zanzibar is home to different ethnic groups such as the Swahili, Arabs, Indians, and Africans which are the clear indication of the cultural diversity of the island. No matter if you are interested in sunbathing on the stunning beaches or exploring the interesting past, Zanzibar is still one of the most popular tourist destinations.
